Visa Application Guidance

General Advice

Apply Early

Visa and travel authorisation processing can take longer than expected, so we strongly recommend starting your application as early as possible and doing so from your country of residence.

Check Country-Specific Requirements

Entry requirements vary depending on your nationality and country of residence. Some travellers may require a visa, while others may only need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Please check the official UK Government guidance applicable to your nationality before making travel arrangements.

Use Official Resources

For the most accurate and up-to-date guidance, please refer to the UK Government website and official UKVI resources.

Do You Need a Visa or an ETA?

Travellers entering the UK for conferences, meetings, or short business visits may require either:

  • a Standard Visitor Visa, or

  • an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).

The correct requirement depends on your nationality and immigration status. Please ensure you apply for the correct permission before travelling. Check if you need a UK visa - GOV.UK

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

Some travellers may require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) instead of a visa to enter the UK.

An ETA is a digital permission to travel to the UK and is required for eligible nationalities travelling for short visits, including business events and conferences.

Important Information

  • Apply for your ETA before travelling to the UK.

  • Applications should be made through the official UK Government website or UK ETA app.

  • Your ETA must be linked to the passport you will use for travel.

  • Keep confirmation of your ETA accessible during your journey (digital or printed copy recommended).

Please note that an ETA is not a visa. Travellers who require a visa must still obtain the appropriate visa before travel. Without a valid ETA or visa (where applicable), you may be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry at the UK border.

Visa Application Process

When to Apply

You can apply for a UK visa up to 3 months before your intended travel date. To avoid delays, we recommend submitting your application at least 30 days before departure.

Visa Type

Most attendees requiring a visa should apply for a Standard Visitor Visa (valid for up to 6 months). Multi-entry visas are generally not recommended unless you: have previously held a UK visa, or can provide a clear justification for requiring multiple entries.

UK Digital Immigration System (eVisa)

The UK is transitioning to a fully digital immigration system in 2026. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is replacing physical visa stickers and documents with digital proof of immigration status, known as an eVisa

As a result, applicants submitting visa applications on or after 25 February 2026 may not receive a physical visa sticker in their passport.

If you are issued an eVisa, UKVI will provide instructions on:

  • how to access your digital immigration status, and

  • whether you will also receive a physical visa vignette.

Please note that the visa application process itself remains unchanged.

Required Documents

Applicants are typically required to provide:

  • Passport valid for the duration of your stay in the UK (at least 6 months’ validity remaining is recommended)

  • Proof of funds, such as recent bank statements

  • Accommodation details or reservation confirmations

  • Travel information, including estimated trip costs and itinerary

  • Personal information, including home address and parental details

  • Employment information and sponsorship details (if applicable)

Additional documents may be requested depending on your circumstances.

Appointment & Biometrics

Visa Appointment

Applicants requiring a visa must attend an in-person appointment at a visa application centre. Appointment availability can be limited, and waiting times may reach up to 6 weeks, so early booking is strongly advised.

Biometrics

During the appointment, applicants will provide:

  • fingerprints,

  • a photograph, and

  • passport verification.

Processing Times

Standard Processing

Typical visa processing time is approximately 3 weeks after biometrics submission.

Priority Services

Expedited or priority processing services may be available for an additional fee, depending on your location.
