The Brazilian Geophysical Society, founded in 1978, is a non-profit institution. Currently, it has over 3,000 members spread across universities, research centres, the service industry, and mineral and energy resource exploration. The SBGf's board of directors, which manages the Society, has an office based in Rio de Janeiro, in addition to four regional secretaries covering the Brazilian territory.
